Top Takeaways from SuperAI 2024

The highly anticipated AI conference, SuperAI, was held in Singapore in June, kicking off a whirlwind of innovation and thought-provoking discussions around artificial intelligence. 

The first of its kind, the AI conference brought together industry leaders, emerging startups, big players, entrepreneurs, and renowned researchers to explore and unveil the next wave of transformative AI technologies.

As expected, Eugene’s SuperAI experience was both inspiring and enlightening. 

Here are his top 4 takeaways:

1. Thinking about implementing AI? Create a holistic strategy.

“One of my biggest learnings from SuperAI was about how to implement AI in our organisations. It's still very early days in the world of AI implementation, and there are simply not enough practical use cases beyond what ChatGPT has achieved. 

If you're contemplating adopting AI in any form, a comprehensive strategy isn’t just a good idea; it's a necessity. 

Your strategy needs to consider people, processes, and tech in one play, addressing how AI will impact your organisation:

  • What does it mean for the business model, organisational design, and dynamics

  • What does it mean for people and processes?

  • Do you have a transition plan for the workforce?

  • What about data and cybersecurity?

  • How will you address AI ethics?

Without a rock-solid strategy, no organisation should think about adopting AI.” 

2. Always start with people.

“Another big topic at SuperAI was the impact of AI on the workforce. If you're going to use AI holistically and sustainably, you need to focus on what's important to the heart and soul of your business – in other words, start with your people.” 

At Maxme, this means putting into place guidelines towards your workforce transition in the short and long run. Think about the immediate training and long-term education programs to arm your workforce with the skills required to adapt and harness the power of AI.

“No matter how experienced you are, AI is a new frontier for everyone,” says Eugene. 

“As emphasised at SuperAI, the power of collective thinking is crucial for successful AI implementation. Together, we can navigate this uncharted territory.

There were many discussions at SuperAI about how consultants and advisors need to rally and help organisations with their AI adoption strategies. After all, AI isn’t a product or widget—it is a technology that needs to be integrated into every facet of business operations. Working with consultants means you can confidently address and mitigate the issues of ethics, data governance, and more.” 

4. Less talk about ethics, more action. 

“The power of AI technology is great, but we need to respect it and be careful about how we put it into our environment.

There's a lot of talk about the ethics of AI, but the more we talk about it, the less we're doing it,” says Eugene.  

Think of ethics as a compass that we need to build sustainable human relationships in professional and personal settings. AI touches every facet of organisational and personal life. It’s therefore crucial to analyse the context of AI adoption in our internal and external environments before execution.  

This effort cannot be driven solely by technology creators as it’s an ethical conflict of interest. Experts in organisational and social transformation must also be involved.
